Too cool for drool

Thu Aug 27, 2009, 1:40 AM
-not too cool for school, apparently.
I'm back to school again, increasing my debt,
but hopefully increasing my skillz to mad lvls and also my chance at getting a job.

I've just started, and will post some of what I do here.

It feels good to be studying again.

-I've mainly got three projects I ought to be looking at.
First is the PD^3 game project, where I have to do some 3d and concept art. In reverse order, of course.
Second is a tv series project with minute aliens hunting bugs.
Third is my board game with the working title "Dødtid" ("Dead time" or, more accurately, a period of time where I don't have nothing to do.) -Yeah, I need to change that eventually, but there is nothing that works as well as "the Quest" in Norwegian. Blah.

I'm not really feeling tired or anything, I just need some motivation. And lots of it.

I'm going to actually enter this time. :D

Most likely the 3D category, but while I'm at it I might as well enter the 2D one. :P
I'm not much in the mood for magic, so I guess I'll make a character for the Machine faction.
Now I have to find out what forum I'm with, so I can include colours in my creation.

I'm fighting my drawing tablet and it looks like it's winning.
It's not that I don't know that I have to go through this to emerge victorious and skilled on the other side, it's just that it's so tedious making pieces that I don't like so I can eventually make other pieces that I do like.

Pft.
Eventually I'll be able to do awesome eight-minute sketches with my tablet, too.

I hope.

Until then I have to draw traditionally to avoid thinking too hard on how I am so daft.

-and then I saw that though I have a background that is interesting to many here, they'd rather not hire anyone or hire an engineer with graphic design experience and a wide knowledge of programming languages. Thus I prepare to curse this city and leave it, hopefully not for good, as most of my family lives here, but at least as long as it takes to be able to get something good going in this cozy but utterly useless little city.

It is strange that nobody in the position to invest money can see that you've actually got to take a chance on something new before you see whether it will succeed or not. You can't just throw new money after old money. Old money tends to work for the pockets of already wealthy and old people who placed it there in the beginning. Pft.

The worldwide game industry makes a larger yearly revenue than the movie industry, and has done so since 2003. Why do we then have to ask film-snobs for government funding for our game? When short films that will be seen by a few hundred and enjoyed for half an hour by each and probably never seen again, what makes that better than a game, potentially played by a larger community and enjoyed over and over again?

My city and county is socially retarded. Said in the undying words of the Beatles: "Help!"
